Create a listening culture at work
Here are 5 ways to show you are really listening. Teach other by example so they value listening and being listened to.
Ask for feedback by saying what you want to learn from them.
Tell people why you chose them for feedback especially if it is someone you don’t always get along with.
Be open minded and ready for feedback.
Explain up front if your decision is yours to make but that you are collecting different viewpoints to consider before making a decision.
If they want to think about it first, you might ask top of mind first then set up follow up time.
Ask deeper questions to be sure you understand their feedback.
Turn your whole body toward the person, eyes, feet, shoulders.
If you can’t listen at the moment set a time and place convenient to both right away.
You are showing and saying that you value their time and input.
